Waking up in a funk one morning I knew the fastest way to get my mood adjusted was by going to the beach for a walk and a swim, especially early in the morning before the crowds arrive. Jumping into my car I was grateful that I live close enough to a beautiful beach and can be there in 15 minutes – all the others are much further away and much more touristy and congested, regardless of the time of day.
On my way there however my enthusiasm was soon zapped when I came across a DETOUR sign – turns out the park entrance to the beach was closed for an event. Perturbed, I turned the car around and pondered what to do, I did after all have my heart set on going for a swim. As I do when I come across situations such as these, I asked Holy Spirit for guidance, and in my spirit dropped, “go to the pool at OZB.”
OZB is a very nice restaurant on the water that features a lovely swimming pool for their guests. It was very early however and I wondered if the place was even open. I drove there to find that although the restaurant was still closed, the pool was indeed open and in fact, I had the place to myself!
As I floated with my eyes closed I got this revelation, “detour signs can be God’s way of redirecting us to something better.” This has stayed with me, and I’m no longer bummed when I see these signs, for they can be signs that something better is ahead for us.
