“The Sparkle” is about that inner light that is in all of us and the people and situations that threaten to extinguish it. Every one of us is facing our own challenges when it comes to what is keeping us from achieving our goals and realizing our dreams. For Sophia, in “The Sparkle,” it’s a narcissistic husband whose need for control is suffocating her and her artistic desires.
Sometimes you have to risk your life in order to save it. That’s what “The Sparkle” and to an extent, what my own life has been about and this film is a peek into that story.
There are some things money can’t buy and creativity is one of them. When one is created to create, it is as important as breathing. It’s something you have to do, or you will die, maybe not physically but what’s the use of living when you are dead inside? Living a vapid lifestyle of luxury and excess is one of the ways you can drown out those creative urges, but for how long, and at what price?
